On 19 July 2017, a landmark ruling of the Israeli Supreme Court gave new direction to the principles of social justice and fairness in matters of shared custody and child support. While the level of child support paid by Israeli fathers ranks second among OECD countries, this long-awaited reform should allow fairer judgments and a fairer review of each parent’s financial situation.
Dr Debborah Abitbol, an expert in international divorce, particularly between France and Israel, describes it as a “mini-revolution”.
